Wow it’s been a bit since I blogged here and there are good reasons all around.

Mainly I have had a recent opportunity that has been filling my time up to the tip top and it’s been great and interesting and not what I expected but a challenge. Working with the legal industry has been a pleasure of mine since I started Satori and I get to continue that now working with the Rasansky Law Firm here in Dallas.

I still have great topics to blog about, mainly things I am working on like the role of video and how many keywords are too many keywords. But that’s just part of the fun. I look forward to being able to talk more about these things as it’s really interesting to me and I think we are in one of those search shifts again, with the launch of the IPad and other tools that make video more accessible and computers less desktop and more mobile.

As I have turned more of my focus in this direction, my role at Satori has moved to Board Member and “not very good at being silent”, Silent Board Member. My partner in the business Brad Hudson has taken a new direction with The Satori Group and he has put together a great opportunity for companies worried about how they are represented on the web.

Proactive Search for material present about firms, key team members

Reactive Response when material is present that needs to be refuted

Ongoing Strategy to maintain the image you want online

Satori Group is moving forward with this new direction and of course taking care of current clients, but I want to talk bout what’s been happening so I can move forward with topics that interest me.

Also I’ll be putting a blog up at the Satori Group site so they can talk more about reputation management over there and we’ll cross link I’m sure. I look forward to being more active on here again and of course our interesting discourse.

Onward and Upward my friends.

There is a phrase you will hear alot if you are in the internet industry. ”Our site looks old, run-down, out-dated because we are too busy working on our client’s sites.”

It rarely is said by ad agencies because they make the time and usually have bandwidth and budget as they know something that internet companies (and this is a broad sweeping generalization) either ignore or don’t know. Perception means something to a client who has never met you.

What I have learned is that even if it kills me, it’s time to get all my marketing ducks in a row. I can’t have Cobbler’s Kids syndrome anymore. Having a current site for myself and my company is crucial. We need as everyone does to:

list what we do accurately

has the key-word driven search engine optimization

good testimonials,

a nice portfolio and

call-to-action (what you want your user to do)

I don’t think web companies mean to let it go, but in an industry where overhead is rarely met in an increasingly commodity driven market, there is no work that is not billable. And while it will pay off to have your marketing working for you, it’s not always easy to make that call.

Here’s to taking care of our marketing needs as well as our clients.

He recently put up a post on the Top 10 Secrets of the Marketing Process. Check out his post here.

My favorite were…

2. You won’t get it right the first time. Your campaign will need to be reinvented, adjusted or scrapped. Count on it.

4. Irrational, strongly held beliefs of close advisors should be ignored. It doesn’t matter if they don’t like your logo.

8. Compromise in marketing is almost always a bad idea. Extreme A could work. Extreme B could work. The average of A and B will almost never work.

We do interactive marketing which I love.

By we, I mean Satori Group which is the company I started six years (nine years now) ago with great Bubble of Dot Come dreams.

It burst a mere two weeks after starting the company and so we got lean and leaner and even leaner. And tougher. Which is good.

But the one consistent thing about our company is that we are the cobbler’s children when it comes to Marketing. We have a web site but it’s always in need of an update. We have newsletter functionality and technology ready to roll but we are too busy building for our clients what we haven’t done for ourselves. We are great at recommending solutions that we have picked up for our own needs rather slowly.

No more!

SO this my friends, is the beginning of Satori Group getting a blog. Individually most of us here at Satori have had one for many many years personally. But recently I decided to move us as company into the Blog world for two reasons.

1. More and more I feel that excitement seeping back into the marketplace. It’s not really a bubble (yet) but I hear and see new ideas coming up. People are getting excited about new tools and applications on the web. There are real business uses and technology is doing one of it’s neat spiral tricks. I just am seeing so much it’s starting to spill over onto my personal blog. I thought this might be a more appropriate space for it.

2. I like the idea we can talk to the marketplace and it can talk back to us. Community. It’s a beautiful thing.

So welcome. Come back soon.
